Marlene’s Kiltwalk

Our Fundraiser, Marlene, kitted out her family in some tartan and took them on the 5 mile Edinburgh Kiltwalk Wee Wander.

“My children Emily (5) and Lochlan (4) know that ‘Mummy helps people to raise pennies for The Scottish Cot Death Trust’ and I try to get them involved with charity work as often as I can.

I’d decided that I wanted us to try to be a more active family and signed up for the 5 mile Edinburgh Kiltwalk in July, thinking that 5 miles would be a good goal for the kids to work towards over 10 weeks.

As it turned out, we managed just 1 training walk, which was 3.7 miles and full of tantrums & tears – mostly from me!

Nevertheless, the kids were super excited about the big walk and really looking forward to it on the day, even though Lochlan declared his knees and feet were sore before we even got to the start line…..Thankfully he was soon distracted by Kevin the Carrot wandering around and the Singing Children of Africa on stage.

There was such an amazing atmosphere; everyone was so friendly and really helped to encourage the kids by telling them how well they were doing.

Pit Stop 6 by Alzheimer’s Research UK was in just the right spot and provided us all with a wee boost to get us through the final 2 miles.

Entertainment was in full swing in the Kiltwalk village when we got there at 2:30, just 2.5 hours after we’d set off, but we had a long drive home and left as soon as we had our free meal. With a few different options to choose from, we had Chicken Curry x 3 and a hot dog – all were very nice.

I’d thoroughly recommend the Kiltwalk to anyone, with 4 locations and 3 distances to choose from at each event, there’s something for all abilities”.
