Baby Loss Awareness Week 9th – 15th October 2024 – Get involved

Our babies are never far from our thoughts and hearts every single day, but Baby Loss Awareness Week gives us the opportunity to unite with other families to remember our wee ones.

This year, Baby Loss Awareness Week runs from 9th – 15th October and to mark this important event we have created several ways for people to get involved to remember those babies and children who have passed suddenly and unexpectedly.

Lake of Light

We have created a Lake of Light to give families the opportunity to light a virtual candle and leave a message of remembrance for their little one.

You can visit our Lake of Light and leave your remembrance message here.

You are not required to make a donation to light a candle but donations to the Scottish Cot Death Trust are very welcome.

The Wee Memory Walk

We’d like to invite everyone to take part in The Wee Memory Walk at 2pm on Sunday 13th October. No matter where you are, get together with family and friends in your local community to walk in memory of your wee one, or to show support for our families. Your walk could be a stroll around the block, climbing a Munro, or anything in between – the location and the distance of your walk is entirely up to you.

We’re encouraging everyone to begin their walk at 2pm on Sunday 13th October so the SDCT community can walk ‘together’, but feel free to arrange your Wee Memory Walk for anytime between 9th – 15th October if this time isn’t suitable.

For those who would like to fundraise, we have set up a Just Giving page here for donations for the Wee Memory Walk which you can share with family and friends. Alternatively, you can set up your own page if you would like to fundraise specifically in memory of your own wee one.

Please do share photos of your own Wee Memory Walk with us by tagging us on social media @cotdeathtrust and using the #BLAW, #BabyLossAwarenessWeek and #TogetherWeCare hashtags. Alternatively, you can email your photos to contact@scottishcotdeathtrust.org and we can share them on our social media channels.

Wave of Light

Baby Loss Awareness Week culminates with the Global Wave of Light at 7pm on Tuesday 15th October.

You can join other families across the world by lighting a candle at 7pm local time and leave it burning for at least one hour to remember all the babies and children who passed too soon.

You can join the Virtual Wave of Light by taking a photo or video of your candle and posting it on social media using the #WaveOfLight hashtag at 7pm local time on Tuesday 15th October. We’d love to see your Wave of Light so please do tag @cotdeathtrust too.
